Update:
I'm Stateside!!!!
It's good to be home, im still a little jet lag though.
What do you expect after a total of 36 hours traveling. :/
I had some problems when I stopped in London for transit to the US.
The employees of the airport were extremely rude, racist and prejudice. They treated my parents as if they were sheep herders and automatically assumed that they were uneducated. Because of their conduct and their unwillingness to help me and my parents we almost missed our flight to the US. When I saw how they treated my father, a renowned doctor, I blew up and demanded to speak to the airports adminstration. It was all caught on tape and there were witnesses.
I demanded that they hold our plane and that proper transportation shouldl be provided for us. I can't believe how they treated us! My parents were speechless. They have lived outside of Syria in the US for more than 30 years and this has NEVER happened to them in the US, but surely enough it happend in London.
Funny, all our friends in the UAE warned us about people being treating us badly in the US, but they never mentioned ENGLAND.
It was a long and annoying trip, but the best part was the service of Emirates airline.
Its good to be home though :)

thanks digin, inshallah i will.
:)
biz.. sorry to hear about that bad heathrow (i presume) experience..
i have been treated badly in the US but rarely in the UK.. however when i use london to transit to the USA then it usually happens.. they get really anal and it's due to the US regulations imposed on airlines and nothing to do with the english.. trust me..
i remember me and my dad were flying to new england via london similarly to your case.. and we were stopped by an american airlines employee who asked if my dad was holding a weapon in his suitcase.
my dad said yes.
the AA guy freaked and asked that my dad open the bag towards the wall (as if, there is a bomb it will blow the wall not the employee!!!)
so my dad did, and took out his tiny pipe cleaner and showed the idiot guy how stupid he was.
PS: You can fly from DXB to NYC direct.. thus bypassing london next time :)
actually it was gatewick, and i didnt provide the whole story, i kinda cut to the chase.
You know how there are 2 terminals, north and south? when you first enter, there are no screens telling you which terminal you need to go, so we asked one of the people working in the airport, they told us to go through the north one. we did, everything is fine. we get through and our gate isnt on the screens, so my dad goes to information. the guy tells my dad to wait. he waits, and its still not up. he goes back. (we had a 2 hour transit, thank god!) the guy gives my dad total attitude ( i wasnt there at the time). so my dad waits and waits, i go get coffee and i feel anxious, because boarding time is getting closer. so i go to information by myself. the guy takes one look at me (and by the way, im dressed really nice, so there is no reason for that look, he just saw the hijab) And frowned and said I CANT HELP YOU. i asked why? he said im not for emirates. i said well you are information, you can at least give me directions. he kept refusing. I then said, 'do you know how to use the computer in front of you?' hes replied that he did. I then said ; WELL THAN USE IT' the guy was just a complete ass. So many people saw what he was doing. he just folded his arms and totally ignored me. My dad then took me to another lady who just got there, and she just looked at me *frowned* and then relunctantly told us we were in the wrong terminal. Thats when i blew up.
:/ anyhow, my parents are like never going to go transit ever again through london. I think amsterdam or like you said, straight to NYC, even JFK is more HELPFUL and less prejudice.
Funny incident about your dad.
I was once traveling with my uncle (in heathrow), and when they asked him "Are you carrying any sharp objects?"
my uncle replied "yes"
they asked "what is it?"
my uncle replied" My brain"
i started laughing, but dude they were about to strangle him.
How come I was never harassed in London?
I know why, but I'm not sharing.
They are actually always nice.
YEA I KNOW WHY, MJ.
-slaps-
...but im not gonna share.
biz.. sorry to hear about that experience.. to be honest i have never had a bad experience in london.. mainly heathrow.. except once in 8 yrs (and i fly probably 4 times a year, sometimes more).. i was called an assylum seeker by none other than an asian brit.. needless to say i lost it.. and i basically gave him a lesson on how to use his computer provided by her majesty's immigration service.
it's more weird coz that area of london, and london in general has so many nationalities and loads of ppl wear hijab.. so i don't think the guy was shocked to see a hijab.. probably he sees many hijabs a day.. he probably was just an asshole to be honest.. nothing to do with u.
as for mj.. i find her extremely annoying.. ya3ni tell us what happened or just keep quiet.. no need to act like a 2 year old.. and show off.. mind you.. they never harrass 2 yr olds in any airport :)
Buj,
I just said it to annoy you and I'm glad it worked. DIE.
If I was acting like a 2 years old by that, you were acting like a stupid 2 years old and got annoyed by it.
MJ .. your arguments are cute, but also pathetic and obviously the work of a 2 year old who hasn't had the benifit of an education.
tsk tsk tsk
if you guys have nothing decent to say, then dont say it at all.
making fun of each other in a light way, i can tolerate, but to be out right mean and rude, come on you guys!
cotain yourselves!
Ok Fine Biz. Just one more thing:
I don't get it why he's acting like that, it was an AB conversation and you got what I was talking about and that's it.
and sure Buj, I didn't get 13 years of education but I'm happy with that.
I am sorry to say this, but I think the guy at information would not help you because you had attitude. So many people wearing hijab claim to be frowned upon, but in reality it is they themselves who have an issue with it.
Just my opinion.
i respect your opinion cg, but it doesn't mean that your view is correct. I was frowned upon before even I was even given the chance to speak. I approached the man in a friendly manner. I was walking with ease and had a big smile on my face. I went to him seeking for some help and information. There was nothing in my manner that was rude or disrespectful. My parents taught me such. They don't me to be as frienly, couteous and as pleasant as possible.
When the man frowned at me, I did not let that phase me, I continued smiling and politely asked him for some useful and much needed information. When he looked at me, with the look of disgust, rolling his eyes, telling me he could not help me, I still asked earnestly if he could at least try. When he said to me "HEY, I DONT KNOW, KEEP LOOKING AT THE SCREEN" in a rude and disrespecful way, thats when I decided, hey im not going to be pushed around by this guy.
People behind me were saying, "I can't believe this guy"
"What is this guys problem?"
>> So many people wearing hijab claim to be frowned upon, but in reality it is they themselves who have an issue with it.<<
Sometimes CG, People are prejudice, people are hateful, and people do things to hijabi's.
Some people may say we bring it on ourselves by wearing the hijab.
I say to those people, keep bringing it on.
you said :
'do you know how to use the computer in front of you?' hes replied that he did. I then said ; WELL THAN USE IT'
If that is not attitude then I have no idea what you consider it to be.
You also said:

// I think you enjoy 'bringing it on' and are pleased to cause a raucous by wearing your hijab and using it as a tool. In my family women wear their hijab for religious reasons. I have to admit that I am growing rather sick of hearing about the predujices. Now tell me, what would you say it was all about if you were not wearing a hijab? .....//
I dont use my hijab as a tool or to cause racous.
You dont know me, and thank you for judging me without knowing me.
